Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is the highest grossing actor of all time

Scarlett Johansson is the highest grossing actor of all time, sitting atop a chart that includes some pretty massive celebrities from the world of film.

Of course, Scarlett Johansson is right up there in terms of famous movie stars, but how many of you would have picked her as the highest grossing actor of all time?

Well, she’s been in 33 films in total, with an average gross of more nearly $440 million, which is the sort of money that most of us will never see in our lifetime.

On the list, there are other actors who have been in more films with a lower average gross, and those who have been in fewer films but have a larger average.

However, right there are the top of the list is Johansson, because all of her films combined have taken in the most money.

There are some massive names on there, but really it is one film that dominates the whole list.

Basically, if you were one of the big stars of Avengers: Endgame, there’s a good chance that you’ll feature on this list.

Alongside Johansson in that film we’ve got Robert Downey Jr. in second place, Samuel L. Jackson in third, Chris Hemsworth in fifth place, Chris Pratt in sixth, and Chris Evans in eighth.

Elsewhere on the list, Zoe Saldana is in fourth, with her role in Avatar holding up quite a lot of her total gross, as well as Tom Cruise – who has been in just about everything ever – in seventh, we’ve got Tom Hanks in ninth and Vin Diesel rounding out the top 10.

The list – in case you were wondering – concerns acting in a leading role, as there are others who have starred in loads of films either as voice actors or in cameos.

On that list, the late Marvel supremo Stan Lee tops the chart with a total gross of over $30 billion.

He only had walk-on parts in most of those, though.

38-year-old Johansson has starred in huge films outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she plays Black Widow, including Marriage StoryGirl with a Pearl EarringGhost World, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

She’s perhaps the most critically acclaimed name on the list too, having been nominated twice for an Academy Award, as well as winning a BAFTA for Marriage Story.

She has also been nominated at the Golden Globes on five occasions, amongst a list of award nominations that is too long to list here.

This year, we can expect to see her starring in Asteroid City, a film directed by Wes Anderson, which usually means we can expect some more box office success.

If that’s what you’re after, Scarlett Johansson seems to be a pretty safe bet.

John Candy’s children have honoured their late father with touching tributes for the 29th anniversary of the comedian’s death.

Chris Candy, actor and comedian, penned a heartfelt message and included a vintage photo of his father rocking a leather jacket.

He wrote: “Sending love to my father today.

“29 years ago you started a new journey. I miss you and think of you often.

“I still think of you daily. Loss is never easy but I can optimistically say it is one of the great teachers in life.”

Jennifer Candy-Sullivan also shared an adorable image of her as a toddler with her dad by her side.

She wrote: “You will always be around. You will always be missed. You will always be loved.”

Many responded to the post, expressing their condolences.

One person wrote: “I’ll never forget the day the news broke. I was 11 years old, and I ran outside and cried.”

Another fan said: “Your dad is a comic genius. I miss his talent. My favourite characters of his are Uncle Buck and Johnny LaRue from SCTV [Second City Television].”

A third lamented: “I remember his passing like it was yesterday. I was eight and it felt like a family member had died. He truly had a gift and is missed.”

While another shared: “He was such a great actor. All my favourites as a kid, he was in. Such a legend!!”

Candy died, aged 43, on this day in 1994 from a presumed heart attack.

However, his official cause of death, according to coroners, has never been published publicly.

Twenty-nine years on, the comedian is remembered for notable roles in Cool Runnings, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Little Shop of Horrors, National Lampoon’s Vacation and Home Alone.

Earlier this year, Variety reported that Prime Video is releasing a documentary on the comedic genius.

Ryan Reynolds is said to be attached to the project, while Colin Hanks is set to direct the feature.

According to the outlet, the film will explore how the iconic funny man rose to fame beyond his improvisational troupe and ‘delve into the person he kept offscreen’.

The documentary will include never-before-seen home videos, archives and interviews with the family to explore the man behind the movie star.

No word yet on when the film will be released.
