Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian have formed a close friendship in 2021 due to their respective relationships with musicians, Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker. The four of them even go on “relaxed” double dates. But in the last months, fans started to notice that Fox and Kardashian were shading each other on Instagram… Here’s why.
How Did Megan Fox & Kourtney Kardashian Become Friends?
In September 2021, a source told Us Weekly that Fox and Kardashian had been spending a lot of time together. “Megan and Kourtney have grown closer as friends over the last two months. They act like best friends when they’re together,” the insider said. “Kourtney has been spending more time with Megan than some of her sisters. It’s mainly because she and Travis are inseparable, and Travis and Machine Gun Kelly are very close, so usually they bring along their girlfriends to hang out with them.”
They also go on double dates that are not as wild as you’d imagine. “Travis has a recording studio in his house so him and MGK will jam out there a lot. Travis introduced Kourt to Megan through MGK,” added the source. “As a group, they like to go on double dates, concerts, events together — it spices things up. Travis and MGK are happy Megan and Kourtney have gotten to bond and get along well with each other.” One time, an eyewitness spotted the foursome together and described their double date as a “calm” one.
“The group seemed calm, very relaxed,” Lieba Nesis told the publication. “They were enjoying their time together as if they had no cares for the world. They looked like they just wanted to relax. MGK didn’t seem stressed about the earlier drama.” The girls’ friendship peaked when they starred in Kim Kardashian’s Skims campaign together. “I love that Skims really understands what women want to wear and that they want to feel sexy, confident and empowered,” the Transformers actress told the press at the time. “I loved being in this campaign with Kourtney, we had so much fun shooting together.”

In January 2022, YouTuber and Star Magazine deputy editor, Shallon Lester published a video titled: “DID KOURTNEY SHADE MEGAN FOX ON INSTAGRAM? How To Deal With Jealous Friends.” She pointed out that fans thought Fox “was stealing Kourtney’s thunder” when she announced her engagement to MGK that month. Barker and Kardashian got engaged just a few months prior. Lester also noticed that when Fox and MGK were posting photos of their trip to Italy at the time, Kardashian “posted a swimsuit thirsty photo saying, ‘Positano August 2021.'”
The YouTuber said that it seemed like Kardashian was retrieving her stolen thunder. “Positano is in Italy,” Lester explained. “So your [air quotes] best friend who just got engaged is celebrating her engagement in Italy and you are suddenly not posting just a photo from Italy but a sl–ty — you know what I mean sl–ty — like a thirst trappy throwback. You’re not in Italy.” She added that “to me, it is clear as day what Kourtney is doing. It’s a little volley. It’s a little shot at her friend, trying to take her down a peg, trying to steal the thunder, perhaps trying to steal it back.”
A lot of fans agreed with Lester’s observation. A commenter then said that Fox and Kardashian might not be real friends at all. “Megan and MGK have such an eccentric love story and honestly I’m here for it. They seem so head over heels for each other and I love that for them,” Laura De La Costa wrote in the comments. “Everyone should have the opportunity to experience a love like that. I also think that Megan and Kourtney are only friends by association and therefore not true friends…”

We might never know the real nature of Fox and Kardashian’s friendship. But the actress and her fiancé were present at Kravis’ star-studded wedding in Italy. So we’re guessing they’re all good. MGK reportedly gave an impromptu performance of his hit Bloody Valentine at the event while the Jennifer’s Body star cheered him on. Captioning a video of the newlyweds’ first dance, the rapper wrote: “not gonna say i called it from the beginning but…” Later that night, Fox also ditched her heels and slipped into her Vans sneakers, which stylishly matched her black taffeta gown by Zuhair Murad Couture.
