Justice League and Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has issued a statement in response to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian crisis.
Gadot shared a screenshot of her statement along with a red broken heart emoji to her Twitter account. She also restricted the replies on her tweet so only those accounts she mentioned — which there are none — can reply. This is a new Twitter feature that allows users to tweet freely without having to read numerous replies, which can often be filled with harassment, rude or negative comments, especially for women.
“My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people,” Gadot’s statement reads. “This is a vicious cycle that has been going on for far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation, our neighbors deserve the same. I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we could live side by side in peace. I pray for better days.”
However, Gadot’s statement has also drawn criticism and made her a trending topic on Twitter, with users calling out her previous service in the Israeli Defense Force.
