Wonder Woman Star Gal Gadot Cast as Disney Villain in Snow White Remake

These days, Walt Disney Studios is largely in the spotlight thanks to major tentpole franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and everything coming from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars division. That’s far from the end of the studio’s reach, however, thanks to an extensive history in filmmaking that spans more than 80 years.

This all started with the company’s first-ever animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, which is now the next project in line for Disney to get a live-action remake.

The entertainment mogul has seen an impressive run with remakes such as Will Smith and Mena Massoud’s Aladdin and spin-offs like Emma Stone’s Cruella, both preceding the studio’s new take on the original Disney princess. This one will feature DCEU newcomer Rachel Ziegler in the leading role, although the rest of the cast is still coming together.

In the latest update for the film, exciting news has come on the casting front as another DCEU icon makes her way into the wonderful world of Disney.

From Wonder Woman to Disney Villain

Gal Gadot

Deadline revealed that DC Extended Universe star Gal Gadot is in final negotiations to play the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. She joins Shazam!: Fury of the Gods star Rachel Ziegler and The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb for the film, which is expected to begin production in 2022.

Gal Gadot and Disney’s Latest Team-Up

After building an impressive resume for most of the last decade, Gal Gadot appears to have found her next major role as she adds a Disney project to her resume.

The last few years have seen Gadot excel in her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman for the DC Extended Universe, which helped springboard her career forward in a big way. The Israeli superstar is already in line for a team-up with Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson in Red Notice and a starring role as Cleopatra before she dons her Themyscirian armor again for Wonder Woman 3.

Now, Gadot gets the chance to take on not only a rare villain role for her resume but also one of the original iconic villains in Disney history for Snow White. It’s still unclear how true this adaptation will stay to the 1937 animated film, but the action star should have a chance to show off her dramatic chops in one of her darkest roles to date.

With the rising popularity that Disney’s live-action remakes are building, Snow White is looking to join the ranks of excellent new outings from the entertainment mogul, especially boasting talent like Gadot in its cast. Filming is reportedly set to begin sometime in 2022, and fans will certainly be looking forward to seeing who else Disney casts in other roles alongside its two stars.
